3 Common Water Heater Questions

If there is any comfort system in your home that tends to get taken for granted, it’s probably your water heater. Relatively quiet systems, they’re often out of sight, and therefore out of mind… until something goes wrong.

Fortunately, if something does go wrong, you needn’t look too far for professional water heater service in Rochester. From installation and replacement to repairs and maintenance, our professionals have what it takes to keep your water heater in great shape for the years to come!

This is why we are sharing a few common water heater questions below–so you know what to expect if you’re experiencing a water heater problem, and what can be done about it.

Why Am I Running Out of Hot Water?

There’s actually more than one reason this could be happening. In the case of a tank water heater–if you’ve always had this problem, since the moment of water heater installation–then chances are that you have too small of a water heater to address your entire household’s needs. But what if this problem is new?

Well, it could be that the thermostat of your water heater isn’t accurately reading the temperature, so you’re getting lukewarm water by the time it’s reached the bottom of the heated tank of water before it heats up the next batch of cold water.

If you have a tankless water heater, then the problem is almost the same–you don’t have the right tankless water heater to address your entire household’s needs. Tankless systems work “on-demand,” using heat exchangers to heat the water once a hot water tab or appliance calls for it. But a tankless system can be overwhelmed if there is too much demand from it at one time. For instance, if someone in your household is showering while you’re running the washing machine and the dishwasher, it might be too much for the system to handle.

Why Is My Water Heater Leaking?

A leaky water heater can be pretty concerning! The good news is that it’s not always detrimental to the system’s functionality. In some cases, like with old age and subsequent corrosion, a leak may spell doom. In other cases though, you might just need one of our pros to do a quick fix.

For example, the problem might be as simple as a clogged drain valve due to a buildup of sediment caused by hard water–water with a high level of calcium and magnesium in it. This can potentially be prevented altogether with the installation of a whole-house water softener, as well as routine water heater maintenance.

If, however, you do see a leak coming from anywhere in or around your water heater, the best thing you can do for the system and the rest of your property is to give us a call right away.

How Can I Conserve Heated Water?

Conserving heated water starts with having the right water heater in place for your specific home and household needs. Where energy savings make a difference is how often the heat exchangers come on versus how often you actually need and use hot water. This is why so many folks choose to go tankless these days! But sticking with a storage tank water heater can be fine too if you have the right size. We’re here to help with this.
